In April 2012 Facebook bought Instagram  for approximately $1 billion in cash and stock. Instagram is a free social photo-sharing program that was launched in October 2010.

Some have wondered, why would facebook be interested in acquiring this startup (it’s largest acquisition), the answer might be clearer now!

Facebook gained popularity in comparison to other social networks thanks to it’s ability to allow users to share photos and display them nicely, Instagram is a startup based around photos, and have gained popularity quickly (it has more than 100 million user).

Facebook saw a threat long before anyone notice it, and bought the new startup before it becomes a real threat, so here’s how Instagram looks like when it decided to have web profiles:
