Twitter is looking to partner with Hollywood producers to create several original reality television series that will be broadcasted on its website and apps. One such series could debut as early as fall this year. This series will be similar to MTV reality shows such as The Real World and The Hills.
This new video series will be seen live on Twitter, with the added feature of enabling users to interact in real time with its broadcast. The social media site has been proactively pitching this series to an exclusive group of advertisers.
This move comes after years of rumours, and after a few major revamps Twitter has been making to broaden their appeal to a mainstream audience. One of the latest developments is Twitter’s cooperation with Nascar to create an entirely new web page format. This new format caters exclusively to Nascar by displaying selected tweets from Nascar drivers and relevant images from live Nascar races.
This new reality show could be similar to the Nascar format, but would be altered to make room for a video player. Another possibility reported is that the series will be broadcasted on a particular brand’s Twitter account, and be promoted using tweets.
Partnering with Hollywood producers, Twitter is aiming to be a major media player and to attract big-budget advertisers and sponsors.
